Weld Australia Pushes for Mandatory Compliance to Boost Quality & Safety
Australia's world-class standards for manufacturing are often underutilized due to a voluntary compliance framework. Unlike many international counterparts, Australian standards are not underpinned by legislation or regulation, leading to inconsistent application across industries. This creates a precarious situation where cost considerations may overshadow quality and safety imperatives. Geoff Crittenden, CEO of Weld Australia, advocates for federally recognized legislation and regulations that mandate adherence to Australian Standards, particularly in critical areas such as welding and fabrication of public assets. The lack of mandatory compliance poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the integrity of Australian manufacturing. Weld Australia urges the government to mandate that all steelwork for renewable energy transition and public assets meet Australian Standards. To support this effort, Weld Australia has launched a new certification service that combines AS/NZS ISO 3834 and AS/NZS 5131, providing a streamlined and cost-effective solution for companies to demonstrate their commitment to quality and compliance.
